Anita J. (Cancelli) Wanat

Anita Jean Wanat, 91, of Exeter passed away on Sunday September 4, 2022 at the Allied Hospice Service, Meade St. Wilkes-Barre.

She was born June 1,1931 to the late Paul and Angela Volpe Cancelli in Carbondale, PA and grew up in Olyphant. 

Anita was known for her skills as a seamstress, starting in that industry right after graduating Olyphant high school in 1950. She began her career at Barbizon and over the course of the next 40 years worked at various local dress and blouse factories and even American Flag Co. in Allamuchy, NJ. Her skills were appreciated by management as she often worked the sensitive or special projects that came along. 

In February of 1954 she married the love of her life, Thomas N. Wanat of Old Forge, PA. Together they had two sons, Thomas, Jr  and Christopher .  The family lived primarily in PA but spent the years 1964-1970 living in Hackettstown, NJ.  Much of their leisure time was spent RVing throughout the US. She enjoyed hiking and rock collecting, often fashioning small turtles from those rocks. 

Anita was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Paul and Louise Cancelli and grandson Christopher II.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years,Thomas, son Thomas Jr (Bonnie)Eagle River, Alaska, and son Christopher (Melinda) Tipp City, Ohio; grandchildren Caroline, Thomas III, Kathryn and Lauren; and great grandchildren Sydney, Andrew, Brodie and Adelynn.  She will be sorely missed by all. 

 A  Blessing service and celebration of her life will be on Sunday September 11 at noon at St. Barbara Parish in St. Anthony of Padua Church. 224 Memorial St., Exeter, with the Monsignor John J. Sempa, pastor, as celebrant.
