Caroline Elvira Scatena Traglia, 98, of Exeter, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 4, 2021 at the home of her daughter and son in law, Linda and Sal Alfano,MD, Camp Hill, PA.
Born in Dupont, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Maria Trombetto Vigilante who had nine other children, all of whom preceded Caroline in death.
In 1938, Caroline was a member of the first class to graduate from Dupont High School. In 1940, she married Peter Scatena of Old Boston, PA. Unfortunately, Peter died in a mining accident in 1959 leaving Caroline alone to raise their three children.
In 1975 she married Anthony Traglia of West Pittston. They enjoyed 35 years of marriage before he passed away in 2010.Tony introduced her to the world of golf which quickly became her passion. She most enjoyed getting a hole in one during one of their frequent golfing vacations throughout the United States. , Caroline and Tony were members of Fox Hill Country Club enjoying years of golf and lasting friendships.
Surviving Caroline is her son Louis (Ronnie) and his wife, Frances, of Phoenix, AZ. In addition are two daughters Carol Sabatini, Ph.D and her husband Joseph of Wyoming, PA and Linda Alfano and her husband Sal Alfano, MD of Camp Hill, PA. Also surviving is her step-daughter Ann Traglia Jacobs of Mechanicsburg, PA.
For many years, nine grandchildren had the good fortune of knowing their loving grandmother. They are Renee Scatena Blavatsky, Peter Scatena, Nicholas Scatena, Gino Sabatini, Carlo Sabatini, Lindo Sabatini, Nicholas Sabatini, Angela Alfano Nadler and Peter Alfano, DMD. Step grandchildren who also held her in great esteem are Donald, Michael and Steven Jacobs. Caroline was additionally blessed to share her love with 26 great grandchildren. Finally, there remain many very attentive nieces and nephews who invariably would ask their Aunt Caroline for her secret to a long and healthy life. The answer was always the same...have a handful of nuts and a glass of red wine every day.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Wednesday from 9 AM until 10:30 AM at St, Barbara Parish in St. Cecilia's Church, Wyoming Ave.,Exeter.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30am with the Rev. Paul McDonnell, O.S.J., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Wyoming,PA.
