Catherine A. (Cometa) Vavrek

Catherine Ann Vavrek, 72, of Harding, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Friday May 26, 2023 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp.

Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanor McDonnell Cometa.

Cathy was a 1969 graduate of Wyoming Area School District and had worked as a nurses aide and a bank teller at the former West Side Bank and First National Bank.

She is survived by her husband Andrew Vavrek and children: Sandra ( Mark) Pearsall, Robesonia, Pa.; Cathy ( Kermit) Douglas, Kingston; and Charles Lockman, Harding.

grandchildren, Cody Crawford, Charles Pearsall, Caitlin Pearsall, Grant Smith, Olivia Lockman and Donovan Douglas and nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her brother, Attorney Thomas ( Sharon) Cometa, Pittston.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Tuesday from 6-8pm at Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

A Mass of Christian burial  will be on Wednesday at 10am at St. Anthony of Padua Church ( St. Barbara Parish), 224 Memorial St., Exeter.

Her cousin, the Rev. Paul J. McDonnell, O.S.J. will be celebrant.

Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church on Wednesday morning.
