Chester D. Newhart

Chester D. Newhart, 90, of West Pittston, passed away on Wednesday April 3, 2024 at the Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Plains Twp.

Born in Exeter, he was the son of the late Chester and Grace Newhart.  

Chester served his country honorably in the US Air Force.  

Upon discharge from the Air Force he obtained his business degree from Lackawanna College and worked for Dunn and Bradstreet.

He later founded and operated Newhart Insurance Agency in West Pittston for nearly 40 years.  He also served as the Secretary of 

West Pittston Borough for 30 years. Upon retirement he operated AC Tours running bus trips to Atlantic City.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Irem Temple Shriners.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his 9 brothers and sisters. 

 Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Ida Musto Newhart, sons, Attorney Chester Newhart Jr and his wife Sandra, Pittston ; 

Joseph Newhart and his wife Michele, Dallas ; grandchildren Melissa Newhart - Kemmerich and her husband Ryan, New York, 

Christopher Newhart and his partner Cristina Caceres, Florida ; grandsons, Taylor Newhart, Dallas ; 

Patrick Newhart, New York ; Step-grandchildren Carter Kusakavitch, West Pittston ; Kira Kusakavitch, New York. 

Great granddaughter, Maya Newhart, Florida.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a  Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated on Saturday at 10:30am at St. Barbara Parish 

in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 224 Memorial St., Exeter.

Private interment for family only will be in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville.
