Retired Master Sergeant Christopher J. Voda (1949-2024)
Christopher J. Voda, a beloved veteran and dedicated community member, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 12, 1949, in Pittston, PA, to John Sr. and Anna Adams Voda, Chris was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School, Class of 1967. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years, traveling the world and earning numerous honors. His mechanical skills earned him the nickname "MacGyver," as he could repair almost anything. Following his Air Force service, Chris worked as a Calibration Technician at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and continued his military career in the Air National Guard for an additional 15 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 2009.
Chris was a lifelong member of VFW Post 6518, where he served as chaplain and actively contributed to the community. His passion for helping others was evident in his countless acts of kindness. He was known for his infectious laughter, quick wit, and unwavering loyalty.
In addition to his military and community service, Chris was an avid gardener. He took great pride in his vegetable garden, especially his prized peppers and tomatoes, which he generously shared with friends and family.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Voda, and his brothers, Charles and Robert Voda.
He is survived by his brother, John J. Voda of Newville, PA; his daughters, Taetra Dobosh (husband John Dobosh) of Exeter, PA, and Athena Voda of Swansea, IL; his grandson, Ian Dobosh of Plains, PA; his nephew, Jonathan Voda; and his niece, Cherrie Lynn (Voda) Heisey; Former spouse Marguerite Voda.
A private service will be held at the Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Gubbiotti Funeral Home,LLC, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
