John L. Pesta

John L. Pesta, 73, Drums, formerly of West Pittston, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp., surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late John and Helen Klemchick Pesta, Exeter.

In 1967 he graduated from Wyoming Area High School and went on to earn his bachelor's degree in Sociology from East Stroudsburg University.

Retiring in 2015, he worked for 32 years at Wilkes University, working his way up to Executive Director of Facilities. He was a well respected and devoted employee who gained the admiration of his colleagues.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, the former Michele Wills and sons Joshua ( Rebecca) Pesta, Mountaintop, Benjamin (Selena), Swoyersville, and Seth, West Pittston. His grandchildren, Olivia, Amelia and Lila. His brother Leonard and sister-in-law Barbara, West Pittston, nephews, Dominick, Ryan and niece, Maria, along with numerous cousins.

In 1968 he met the love of his life, Michele, at Pete’s Pizza in Exeter. After one date, they were inseparable and four years later they married and were blessed with their sons. He had a passion for golf, classic movies and Marilyn Monroe. He was a humble and quiet man with a wicked sense of humor. He was an honorable and committed man, asking only for kindness from others.

Prior to working at Wilkes University, John was a master carpenter who owned his own construction business. He loved working with his hands and could build and fix most anything. John was always willing to help anyone who asked.

John was a devoted husband and loving father. He loved traveling the world with his wife, being a mentor and teacher, but most importantly, a father to his three sons.  He also cherished every moment spent with his three granddaughters.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Prayer Service on Saturday, December 10th at 11:00am at Corpus Christi Parish in Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston.

The Monsignor John Sempa, pastor, will be celebrant.
