Lenore C. (Kashuda) Maffei

Lenore Maffei passed away peacefully on 8/4/20 in Irondequoit, NY surrounded by family and friends at the home of her daughter, Linda, following a long illness. She was born 4/7/26 in Duryea, Pa., the 8th of 13 children to Frank and Mary (Janosky) Kashuda.

At 17, she left school to pursue a career as a photographer’s model in Philadelphia, where she met her future husband, James (Jimmy) Maffei, a Staff Sergeant in the US Army. Following WWII, they wed and took up residence at 25 Penn Avenue in Exeter, where Lenore resided until 2019 when she moved to Irondequoit, NY to live with her daughter.

After earning her GED, she became a bookkeeper in the garment industry for over 35 years; at Leslie Faye, EmKay and Gubbiotti dress factories. After retirement, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Geisinger Medical Center.

She raised three devoted daughters, Linda (Scott Goff) Luchetti of Irondequoit, Mary (Stephen) Elko of Berkeley Springs, WV and Denise (Jerry) McGlinsey of Blandon, Pa.

Lenore and Jimmy were active in their parish, St Anthony (now St Barbara) Catholic Church in Exeter, helping for many years at the parish picnic in the food tent. They loved playing cards and belonged to the Nutty Buddy Club and the Cosmopolitan Club. She loved to shop for clothes and play the slots at the casino. She was devoted to her family and stayed close to two longtime friends until her death.

She was preceded in death by Jimmy, her husband of 49 years, her parents, 4 Brothers and 4 sisters, and two great-granddaughters.

She is survived by her three daughters, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters, a sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial mass of celebration will be said at St Barbara’s Parish in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 224 Memorial St., Exeter, on Saturday, September 19 at noon. Family will receive relatives and friends between 11 and 12 at the church to share pictures and memories.

A private interment will follow the mass at St Cecelia’s Cemetery, Exeter.
