Mary Ann Rome, 84, a life resident of Exeter Borough, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, hours after arriving and while being treated in the hospital’s Emergency Room.
Born November 26, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John Serratore and Lena Braccio Serratore, and the late Adam “Mince” Barletta, who raised her as his own, after her father was killed in a trucking accident and her mother remarried.
A graduate of Exeter High School, she also attended and successfully completed businesses courses at Luzerne County Community College.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Richard Rome, also of Exeter, on May 13, 1961. Their marriage continued for 43 years, ending only with the death of her beloved husband on April 28, 2005.
They were the parents of and she is survived by their three sons, Ronald J., (Sandie), of Exeter; Richard D. (fiancé Kathy Sebastian), of Dallas; and Randy A., of Shavertown; and grandsons, Brandon Rome, Jacob Rome, Jonathan Kemler, Nicholas Colavito, Dominic Colavito, and Benjamin Fisher.
Also surviving are her sisters: Gloria Vacula (Fred), Pittston Twp.; Margie Palchak (Bob), Houston, Texas; and Joann Pellegrini (Thomas), Exeter and nieces and nephews and friends.
Mom and Dad owned and operated several children’s sportswear manufacturing factories, including the Clothes Circuit, in Exeter, throughout the years, with Mom being the office manager for the businesses. Aside from the roles she had with Dad in their businesses, Mom also worked for years as a medical office manager and specialist for several area providers, including doctors Norina D’Orio, MD; Ernest Gelb, DO; and Joseph Costello, DPM.
Family and friends are welcome and invited to attend a Mass of Christian burial for Mom on Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10am in the St. Anthony of Padua Church,St. Barbara’s Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter. The Reverend Paul McDonnell, O.S.J. will be the celebrant.
Mom will rest in peace in interment with Dad after a Rite of Committal in the Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton. Reunited. Together forever.
Interment with Rite of Committal will be in Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Carverton.
