Michael F. Waszkiewicz, 80, of Exeter, passed away on Thursday April 17, 2025 at the Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Exeter, he was the son of the late Michael Waszkiewicz and Mary Kolesar Waszkiewicz.
Known by many as “Big Mike”, he was a graduate of Exeter High School and Luzerne County Community College. He also served in the US Army Reserve with the 402 Military Police Battalion.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a mechanic/electrician at Pagnotti and Jeddo Coal Co for 49 years.
He made sure his home was open to all, friends and strangers alike and greeted everyone with a warm smile. Christmas eve parties were legendary, filling his home with generations of friends and family. Nearly every summer had a beach vacation, where he loved to spend time in the surf, boogie boarding and just relaxing under the sun. Wintertime took him to the ski slopes of Pennsylvania. Other months, he loved to spend hunting, fishing, and shooting with his brother and life long friends. Weekends were spent watching auto racing and kung fu movies and the nearly ever-present rerun of Crocodile Dundee. Some of his most cherished times were the games of Pinochle and Aggravation spent with friends and loved ones that spanned into the wee hours of the night.
Preceding him in death were his sisters Marie Oliver, and Johanna Stachyra.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Claire Waszkiewicz née Blecher and sons Michael III and his wife Hope of Soddy Daisy, TN and Daniel and his partner Tiffany TJ Johnston of Glendale, Az. and a brother Daniel Waszkiewicz, Wilkes-Barre Twp.
