Regina E. Poplawski

February 2, 1932 ~ January 6, 2022 (age 89)

Obituary

On January 6, just weeks away from her 90th birthday, Regina Edith Dobilas Poplawski passed away at Geisinger Medical Center , Plains Twp.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, the late George and Anna (Berkant) Dobilas, by her husband, Vince J. Poplawski, by their four children, David, Kenneth, Nancy, and Stephen, and by her grandson Jeremy YonKondy.

Regina is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Jon YonKondy of West Pittston, grandson Jonathan YonKondy, and granddaughter Jillian YonKondy.

Regina proudly served as the Valedictorian of Exeter High School’s Class of 1949, where she was offered a full scholarship to College Misericordia. She met her husband, Vince, while on leave from the Navy at a dance at the Dupont Hose Co. They were married in 1952 and built a house on ‘Red Row’ in Dupont that Regina still called home until her final days.

Regina touched many lives throughout her various careers, including 40 years as a Stanley Home Products Dealer. She was a very independent woman until 2020, driving herself to work in downtown Wilkes-Barre five days a week for ten years at Center City Cafe. Regina loved a good conversation and understood the positive impact a smile can make on someone’s day.

Regina was also very active within the St. John the Evangelist Parish Community in Pittston, where she served as President of the Altar & Rosary Society for four years. She was also very proud of the 91 hand-sewn quilts she created and donated to the church bazaar over the course of 18 years.

She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Marcella (Mrs. George) Kosik, Dupont; Christina (Mrs. Paul) Warnagiris, Pittsburgh; and George Dobilas, Huntington Beach, California — as well as by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
