Robert John Botteon, 85, of Exeter, formerly known as "Bud" to his co-workers, passed away Friday December 24, 2021 at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Plains Twp..
Born in Pittston on May 19, 1936 to the late John and Victoria Biondek Botteon of West Pittston.
He was a 1953 graduate of West Pittston High School and an honor graduate of Penn State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He found his niche in life starting as a laborer in the paper mills of Philadelphia. After returning to the Pittston area, he worked as a Lab Tech for the former Swanee Paper Company and was then promoted to Shift Supervisor and eventually a Mill Manager. After a buyout by the Potlatch Corporation, he remained Mill Manager and traveled extensively throughout the United States to help at numerous plants. Bob was eventually recruited by Atlantic Packaging in Toronto, Canada as Plant Manager. He turned around their failing company to maker them a top producer in all of Canada. He was often sent to Italy, Switzerland, Korea, Germany to find and share information on the latest equipment and advances in the papermaking industry. After his time in Canada, Bob returned to the States and served as a Plant manager for American Paper in Long Island and New Jersey until his retirement.
In Bob's "spare" time he served as a mentor for Junior Achievement helping students understand the business world. He enjoyed spending time at Lake Wallenpaupack at the cottage that he and his wife Dolores built by hand. He was often found cruising around the lake in one of his boats or making numerous trips to Delaware pulling his camper where he vacationed with his family. An avid outdoorsman, Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, clamming and crabbing. He also loved football and cheering for his alma mater, Penn State.
Bob is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Dolores Kredlow of Exeter, sister, Rita Mauriello and her husband Carmen, Exeter, daughter, Barbara Straub and her husband Marty of Dallas, Pa.; son, Robert Botteon and his wfie, Tena of West Pittston; daughter Kristen Cipparone and her husband Steve, of Mullica Hill, NJ; grandchildren Celeste Regan and husband Pat Dallas, Pa., Ashley Straub, Exeter; Matthew Straub of Swoyersville, Tony Botteon and financee, Brittany of Exeter, Gabrielle, Christopher and Isabella Cipparone of Mullica Hill, NJ; great granddaughter Charley Rose Regan of Dallas, Pa.; nephews Carmen Mauriello, Jr. and wife, Acacia of Ossining, NY and Robert and Mark Mullins of Pittston and Bobby Bell of Harding.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Robert's life will be held on Thursday August 4, 2022 at 10am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, of St. Barbara Parish, 224 Memorial St., Exeter. The Monsignor John Sempa, Pastor, will be celebrant.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the church from 9:30am until time of Mass.
Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Roman Catholic Cemetery, Wyoming, Pa.
