Rosalie A. (Shoemaker) Ferrara

Rosalie (Shoemaker) Ferrara peacefully passed away on July 26, 2023, at the age of 84, at the Highland Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Exeter.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Ferrara, January 2023 and her parents Stephen and Sophie (Socash) Shoemaker.

She is survived by her daughters Ann Marie Benson and Allison Wimms along with her husband James Wimms, Sykesville, Md., and her granddaughter Hannah (Benson) Viers and husband Zachary Viers. sisters Anne and her husband Edward Helinski, Johnson City, NY and Jeanne and her husband Bill Barnhart, Edgewater, MD.

Rosalie (Ro) was a graduate of Exeter High School and briefly attended Wilkes-Barre School of Business. She worked for several years in the garment industry at Star Garment in Exeter and also at the local election polls. Rosalie was a devout Catholic who worshiped at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Exeter, where she volunteered at many church picnics and events over the years, and faithfully served on St. Barbara’s Prayer Chain. 

Rosalie was a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State football teams—never missing games on TV and staying close to home during football season. She held fond memories of traveling, bus trips with friends, and card games with life-long friends till the end. She loved to sing and was also quite the cook—never missing an opportunity to comfort someone with an Italian meal, cake, or pie—and always made holidays special. 

Rosalie lived her entire life in Exeter where roots run deep and friendships are strong. To her, the best of times were on the front porch and staying in touch with the neighborhood. The family would like to thank Highland Manor, Serenity Care, and Maureen Kascillas for years of care and compassion.

Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Friday from 5-7pm at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.

Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:45am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00am at St. Barbara Parish in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 224 Memorial St., Exeter. The Rev. Paul McDonnell, O.S. J. will be celebrant.

Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schooley St., Exeter.
