Sandra Maria Singer, 60, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday September 11, 2024, at her home in Swoyersville, surrounded by her loving family and longtime friends.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of Russell and Anita Louise Hovanec Singer.
Sandra was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish.
She was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West School District and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1986 from King's College and a Masters degree in forensic science from George Washington University in 1988.
She had been employed as a Forensic Scientist for the Pennsylvania State Police Crime Lab, then as Director of the State Police Crime Lab for 35 years. Also for the past 10 years Sandra was an adjunct professor of Forensics at King,s College.
Sandra was a very talented woman who played the piano and violin. Along with her brother Louis and her grandparents Louis and Anita Hovanec she traveled extensively thought out the world to such places as Italy, Spain ,Egypt, Slovakia, Russia, France, Ireland, England, Japan and many more.
Sandra was a loving aunt and godmother not only to her 2 nieces and nephew (Abby, Meghan and Russ) but also to her friend’s
children. She was always generous and compassionate. Always loved to take the children out shopping and dining for their special occasions. She always had more than enough time for them.
She was preceded in death by her brother Louis John Singer in 1999 and maternal grandparents Louis and Anita Santarelli Hovanec and paternal grandparents, John and Doris Singer.
Surviving in addition to her parents, Russell and Anita Louise Singer are her brother Russell (Rusty) and his wife Carrie and nieces, Abigal, and Meghan and nephew, Russ Singer, Forty Fort.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday from 3-6pm and again on Monday from 9:30am -11:00am at the Gubbiotti Funeral Home, LLC, 1030 Wyoming Ave., Exeter.
Funeral will be on Monday at 11am from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:30am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, 116 Hughes St., Swoyersville, Pa. 18704 . The Rev. Louis Grippe, a close family friend will be celebrant.
The family would like to thank Dr. Igor Astsaturov and the staff from Fox Chase along with the staff form Compassionate Care for their exceptional care that was extended to Sandra.
Interment with Rite of Committal will follow in the parish cemetery, Holy Trinity Cemetery, Warsaw St., Swoyersville.
